Empowering through education

Mother Mary Aikenhead understood that education was the best way to break the cycle of poverty, and many of the Sisters of Charity’s ministries in Australia have been in the education of both children and adults. From vocational education for convicts and new migrants to the founding of primary and secondary schools in several states, the Sisters have been active in education in Australia since their arrival in 1838.
