The Faces of Mary Aikenhead

Exhibition | 9 June 2026 - 27 August 2026

What is in a face? What stories does a portrait tell? How do we read the history of a person through an image?

Join us as we explore the many stories of Mary Aikenhead through the many portraits created of her throughout her life and beyond. From the portrait of her youth before she entered social life in Ireland, to the regal posture of official portraiture, and finally, to the multi-media collages created by students in the far off land of Australia. Come along with us on this journey as we explore what each depiction has to say, and how they sit in conversation with one another.
